I have never been good at this blogging thing, but I want to document the cute, funny, silly things the boys sat & do. They are growing up so fast, and I know I will never remember everytng if I am not writing it down. So, this is mostly for me, but I hope anyone else who reads it get enjoyment out of it as well. My goal is to blog at least nice a week......we'll see how I do :)

Since mothers day was yesterday, I figure I'll start there.

Jason is out the door by 7:30 at the latest on Sundays, so mothers day starts in the afternoon for us. After the boys got up from their naps, we decided to head out to sackets harbor, since the sun was actually shining! We played "ball" out near the water, as best the Day family knows how- Owen kept turning the bat into a guitar :) we had dinner at Goodfellos pizza and the went to our friends ice cream shop for dessert. Our friend Jeremy was working, and gave Jason the biggest ice cream cone I have ever seen!

The funniest part of Mother's Day was a card Dylan brought home from school. He had to fill out some questions about me. It went like this:

My mom is __8__ years old

She loves to cook : French fries

Her favorite TV show is: the news

Her favorite song is: Mario Tam (it's a new one I made up)

My mommy always tells me: to go to my room if I do something bad

When my mom shops, she loves to buy: vegetables & fruit cocktail

Oh....through the eyes of children!

Here's a few pics we took in Sackets :)

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; But I promised my friend Marcie (a few months ago) that I would try to start blogging again.

So, I thought I would start with a brief update on each us to get everyone up to speed:

Owen

Owen is 11 moths old!! I can't even believe he is almost a year old already. He is crawling like crazy, has cut 4 teeth and weighs about 24 lbs!! He is full of smiles most of the time, and is a joy to be around. He loves to eat (remember the 24 lbs!!) and is a much more adventurous eater than Dylan is. He already eats what we eat most of the time, and we haven't found much he doesn't like. He transitioned to a sippy cup from the bottle this week too! It was a very easy transition, which is probably because he has never taken the bottle regularly. He mostly breastfed until about a month ago, when we began the weaning process. I guess he didn't have time to get too attached to the bottle :)

Dylan

Dylan just "graduated" from his first year of preschool! He went 2 mornings a week, and loved every minute of it. He had a wonderful teacher, and I kinda wish he was going back to her class again next year. But, he will be going to preschool 5 days a week through our school district next year. I've heard wonderful things about his new teacher too, so we're hoping for another great school experience next year.

Dylan continues to be very strong willed, and keeps us on our toes. He is also very funny and knows just when to turn on the charm. He recently memorized our address, and loves to recite it to anyone who will listen.

Jason

Jason is still working on his classes to become an ordained minister. On the side, he has formed a band- Staircase Theory- with our friends Dan & Amanda Cash, Jeremy Shulz and Josh Bachran. They recorded an EP and will be working on a full length album sometime in the future :) I must say, they did a really good job, and if you're interested you can download their CD on iTunes.

Me

Life for me has changed quite a bit since Owen was born. I went back to work at Starbucks at the end of September, and it was horrible.... for all of us. I hated very minute I was there, and life wasn't great for Jason either. Owen didn't adjust well to me being gone, and screamed for hours on end for Jason. I was exhausted all the time from working terrible hours at Starbucks and getting up multiple times per night to feed Owen. We had our health insurance through STarbucks, which was why I had to go back.

In October I had a Mary Kay facial from a coworker who was also a consultant. I fell in love with the product, and decided to become a consultant myself. Within 4 months time I was making enough to be able to leave Starbucks! So by the end of January, I was DONE!!!!! Yippee! I now stay home with boys most of the time, and am able to make enough money with MK just working a few hours a week. It was such a great decision- I now love what I do, and it works for our family. Staying home with the boys sometimes makes me want to pull my hair out, but it's worth it :)

Now, here are a few recent pics:

just cuteness!

Proud of his seaweed (Newport Beach- our April CA trip)

He loved the sand :)

Family trip to Disneyland (with my parents)

Brothers :)

Showing off his teeth

Such a ham!

At his end-of-the-year school picnic. We celebrated this week by going to Toronto to see U2 on Wednesday and Niagara Falls on Thursday. We took Owen with us , while Dylan stayed home with Jason's parents. Taking Owen went well- thanks to our sleepy wrap and his Peltor Kid earmuffs :) Not that taking him didn't have it's challenges- the biggest of which was changing his poopy diaper on my lap in a bathroom stall!! I can definitly say I have never been stared at so much in my life- walking around with a baby straped to your body at a huge concert really draws attention. I even had someone ask if they could take a picture! It was like I was famous or something :) The concert itself was amazing- for a more deatiled account of the concert, you can check Jaason's facebook. Parking for the concert was a nightmar, and we ended up finding a parking garage attached to a soho hotel/condominium complex. To get down to our truck we had to take an elevator from inside to hotel. When we got into the elevator, there were 3 other people in it going to thier cars as well. They started talking to us about taking Owen to the concert, and I realized we were taling to Peter Gallager! (the Dad from the show The OC) He and his friends were sooo nice and he just acted like he was a normal person. He was really down to earth and friendly. So that was an fun and unexpected end to our evening :)

We drove to Niagara Falls after the concert and stayed there for the night. We spent the day there and had a great time just walking around taking it all in. We rode the Maid of the Mist, where we got totally soaked- and we weren't even on the top of the boat.

Here are some pics of our trip:

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; He is going to school Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-11:30. Last Thursday we visited his classroom for an open house, and he was a little unsure, but by the end he was having fun. I'm really glad we went last week, because today he had very little hesitaiotn before walking in and making himslef at home. When I picked him up at the end of the day he didn't want to leave, and was all smiles. We are going to use cloth diapers this time around instead of disposables. Every time I throw out a huge bag of Dylan's gross, stinky diapers, I feel guilty for how much waste just my ONE kid is producing! It feels like I'm filling up a landfill all by myself.... But I always thought, well there's no way I could handle cloth, so I just kept using disposables. Then our friends Daniel and Amanda decided to use cloth with their new baby Elliana. I was impressed, but still thought there was no way I could do it. Then I saw how different cloth diapers are now from when we were babies. There are so many options that I really think anyone could find a cloth diapering system that would work for them. The thing I was most concerned about was dealing with the stinky diapers once solid foods are added to the diet....but then I found out that there are flushable liners you can buy to put inside the diapers once things get messy. So really, there's not much more contact with the "poopies" than with a disposable. And actually, I like this better. Because this way the smelly poop is flushed away immediately, instead of sitting in the diaper pail until it's full, getting stinkier and stinkier. So now, we just have to decide which kind of diaper to invest in. The cost upfront is significant, but in the long run it will save money, and it is so much better for the environment. For anyone who is familiar with cloth diapers, we are thinking about using GroBaby or BumGenius one size pocket diapers. But I'm still doing research, and haven't made a final decision yet. Anyone who is interested in looking into cloth for yourselves, or just want to see what I'm talking about- here are some great websites: www.kellyscloset.com and their blog www.theclothdiaperwhisperer.com

Happy Birthday Jason

Happy 30th birthday Jason!!!!

Thank you for being a wonderful husband and father.

Dylan (and Owen) and I are so lucky to have you!

We love you! I still don't really have time to go into detail, but here is the bulleted version of some of the things going on over the last few months:

On the way home from CA, I received a call from my Dr. telling me that my ultrasound results showed I had a condition called partial placenta previa. Basically this means my placenta is positioned too low, and partially covering my cervix. This brought about a new set of restrictions to my everyday life- no lifting over 15 lbs, no "strenuous" housework, no exercising besides walking, and even that is limited to 20 minutes.

The reason for these restrictions is that I am at greater risk for my placenta to detach, which could cause premature labor, or worse, but we choose not to think about that.

The good news is, partial previa usually corrects itself during the 3rd trimester, so we have an ultrasound scheduled for April 21st to see how things are going.

If I still have partial previa by the end of the pregnancy, I will have to have a c-section, but my midwives & Dr. are confident that it will probably have corrected itself by this next ultrasound.

Jason is super busy at work, due only in part to it being Easter week. The church is going through major changes, and only Jason, the youth Pastor Amanda, and the secretary are still on staff.

Currently the church is being run by the board, and we are searching for a new senior pastor (please pray we find the right one soon!!)

Due to my partial previa, I was no longer able to lift Dylan in and out of his crib, which meant we had to put him in his toddler bed before we thought he was ready. This actually worked out better than expected, and he loves his Lightning McQueen race car bed!

Our goal is to have him potty trained before the next little guys gets here...we'll see how that goes :)

I guess that is all for now. Here are a few pictures of my belly and Dylan:

It's a......

BOY!!!!!! Yippee, I am so excited we are having another boy :) The due date is June 29th.... the ultrasound tech said according to the ultrasound we are due July 4th- but since that is so close to the original due date, the doctor will probably just leave it at June 29th! So I guess that means I'm about 19 weeks pregnant now- almost halfway through the pregnancy already!! WooHoo! The baby was very active through the whole ultrasound, so she had trouble getting a clear picture of him. But she said everything looks good and healthy. One week from today we have our ultrasound and will hopefully find out if we are having a little boy or girl. Then the following day, we leave for Redding for a week!! We are so excited to get away for a little while, especially in the middle of winter. This has been an extremely long, hard winter, and it's probably not even close to being over. I can't wait to get away and hopefully see some CA sun. Even if it rains the whole time we are there, that would still be an improvement over bitter cold and snow. But really, the weather is not the actual reason we are going to Redding. Our church is going through a lot right now, and Jason needs a break. The church is sending him to a conference at Bethel, and then we will be spending time at The Stirring. I can't wait to see old Redding friends, and to attend a church service where I have no responsibilities!! What a nice break that will be :) I'm not even sure if we have finalized our plans for where we are staying.... nothing like waiting til the last minute! This will probably be our last trip before the baby is born, so we are looking forward that as well. Jason's parents are staying at our house with Dylan, so not only will our week be "snow free," it will also be "kid free!" (well...at least free of our kid) We will miss Dylan like crazy, but I know he is in great hands with his grandparents, and this is a much needed break for us.

Baby bump

Here's a pic of my bump. As I tried on each one he would look at me and say "Not cool Mommy, not cool." I thought we had a few more years before he would think I wasn't cool!! Haha

While I was changing his diaper:

Dylan: (singing) Twinkle, Twinkle little star...

Me: (joining in) How I wonder what you are...

Dylan: No singing Mommy, no singing!!

Me: You don't want me to sing with you?

Dylan: (almost yelling) NO!!!

OK, so even at 2 years old, he know which one of his parents has TERRIBLE voice!

When we are at home, and he hears a noise in another room or upstairs, he will cup his hand behind his ear and say "Listen. You heard dat?"

If we ask him a question, and he feels he needs to think about the answer, he puts his hand up to his cheek and taps his face while saying "Hmmm, think, think, think." I think he got that one from the Disney cartoon My Friends Tiger & Pooh, but we cancelled our cable a few months ago, so it's been a while since he's seen it- but he still says it all the time!

That's all I can think of for now, soon he'll be on to new things....

The baby

I felt the baby move today for the first time! I am only 15-16 weeks along, so I wasn't expecting it for a little while still. What's funny is that I had my first whole cup of coffee today since I found out I was pregnant. Coincidence- I think not!! This little guy or girl was probably doing some extra back-flips in there- heehee :) Coffee had started sounding really good to me again, which is good since I work at Starbucks, and the smell made me nauseous for the past 2 months!! I obviously drink much less than I did before, and I am always careful to stay well under my 200 mg per day caffeine limit, but it's nice to be able to enjoy a good cup of half-caf. There really isn't much other baby news. We heard the heartbeat at our appointment at the end of last month. It took a while for the midwife to be able to find a strong signal, but eventually we heard our peanut's strong little heart! I am feeling much better now, and slowly getting my energy back. When we ask Dylan where the baby is he points to my stomach and says "in there." He will also talk to the baby and kiss my tummy. He always saying it is a sister, and in just a few weeks we will find out if he is right. Our ultrasound is scheduled for Feb. 3rd, so in about 3 1/2 weeks, we will hopefully know what we are having! I can't believe how quickly things are going. In the beginning it feels like it will never end, but already it seems to be flying by. Before we know it we will be halfway there!!!! We keep meaning to take a belly photo, so when we finally get around to it, I will post it so everyone can see my little bump :)

Christmas

This Christmas was the best Christmas we have had in a few years! Dylan is at such a great age, and had so much fun opening his presents. He was thankful for all of his gifts, and as he opened each one, he wouls say "WOW!" We had our friends the Cash's over for brunch, and Dylan and Ethan ran around in thier PJs pulling each other around in Dylan's new sled, that they both call a boat. After eating lots of yummy food, we played our new Office trivia game with Dan and Amanda. It was really fun once we figured out how to play it. Here's a few pics from the day:

<img style="display:block; I'm not real great at keeping up with it anyway, but it really has been a while. I also promised pics of my finished kitchen, unfortunately, it's not finished yet! But, I have a great excuse- I am pregnant!! My midwife says I am due sometime between June 28th and July 13th. So for now, I am going with July 7th. We'll see how close I am once I have an ultrasound sometime in Feb :)

So far this pregnancy is very similar to Dylan's. I am nauseous (and tired) most of the time, and it gets worse at night. I also already have terrible back pain, just like with Dylan. I am really absent minded too- I think "pregnancy brain" hit earlier this time! It's amazing how much more challenging it is to be pregnant with a toddler running around! He just doesn't understand why I'm too tired to play as much as we used to.

One plus with this pregnancy is that I'm not working full time. I don't know how I could possibly be working 40 hrs plus take care of the house and Dylan. Jason still has to pick up a lot more of the household chores anyways!! I can't wait to be out of this beginning stage, I must admit I forgot how horrible it is. We have an appointment in a few weeks where we will get to hear the heartbeat for the first time. I can't wait!!!

I'm not sure how coherent this blog has been, but I'm pregnant, so you can't expect much from me- haha

Always one step ahead of me!

Just as I was thinking to myself "wow, Dylan is playing so well by himself. It is amazing. It's not even November yet, and we had a huge storm. Luckily, it seems like this was just a fluke storm, not the beginning of winter already. By Halloween, it is supposed to be in the mid 50's, and so far the weather forcast for next week looks good. We were not happy to be shoveling snow at 4:30 this morning so I could be to work at 5:15, but I have to admit I really loved the beauty of it, and had a great time building a snowman with Dylan this afternoon. He really got into it, and we played outside for about an hour.

<img style="display:block; In the past few weeks I have been painting my kitchen, preparing for Dylan's second birthday, and getting ready to go out of town to visit Jason's parents and go see Coldplay!! I'm not quite sure why I thought tearing apart my kitchen 2 weeks before Dylan's birthday party was a good idea..... My goal was to have it finished before the party- because 2 and 3 yr. olds really care about the condition of our kitchen! I had to give up that dream, but it is close. For those of you who haven't heard about our crazy kitchen, I will just post a picture, words just can't describe it. I did the walls and the cabinets, so all the cabinet doors had to come off, and everything had to be primed and then painted. There are still some cabinet doors to finish, so once it is all completed, and the kitchen is put back together, I will post an "after" picture. As for Dylan's party, it was a lot of work, but so much fun. I think next year we will not have a party for him, maybe not again until he turns 5 and I know he will remember it! The kids were crazy- especially when it came time to open presents. We tried to have them all sit back and let Dylan open the gifts one by one, but that was not going to happen! We eventually gave up, and he got lots of help opening gifts from his friends. We left for Ohio Sunday night, and we are now enjoying a few days away from the busy-ness of our lives. We had another b-day celebration with Grammie and Papa last night, and we are going to go see Coldplay tonight!! Yippee!!!!

Our kitchen "before"

(that's not wallpaper on the walls... it's paneling! I moved his Diet Coke to a different shelf in the fridge! This is a big step...... Anyone who knows Jason, even a little, knows that he loves Diet Coke. A LOT. He drinks it.....well, like water. His Diet Coke has always had prime placement in any fridge we have had. Well, the fridge we have now is tiny, and our kitchen does not have a space for a bigger one. The top left shelf was just not being used to its full potential. I needed the snag that space for taller items so, I moved it. (Hopefully he will read this before he comes home. Then he will have a chance to get used to the idea of his Diet Coke getting bumped for creamer, juice and yogurt!)

Dylan the artist

Lately Dylan has taken an interest in coloring. Actually, he does not like coloing at all. He prefers drawing. Coloring books do not interest him at all. He wants plain paper to express his creativity.

I recently bought him a really big drawing pad- it takes up almost our whole coffee table. I love to watch him run back and forth to different sides of the table adding to his masterpiece. Every once in a while he looks at something he's drawn and decides it resembles a fish, or a tree. He is

so proud of himself and claps and cheers loudly. Other times I will ask him what he is drawing, and he looks at me as if I am an idiot, and says "a picture." (duh, mom!) I love seeing things like this come out in his personality. I want to encourage his God-given gifts and talents, without pressuring him as he grows and changes. I hope he continues to be this creative and artistic as he grows up; but if not, I am sure his love for drawing will be replaced with something else just as wonderful!

10am

Dylan slept in until 10:00 today! This is the worst thing we have experienced since colic. My day today has pretty much been non-stop screaming or crying, or a combination of both. It so heartbreaking to watch Dylan be in so much pain, and not be able to do anything about it.

For those of you who don't know what HFMD is, count yourself lucky!! Basically, the little guys get blister-like sores on their hands, feet & inside their mouths (hence the clever name). It is a virus, so there is no medicine for it. Thankfully, once they have had it, they are immune to most strains of it. So.....we have been pumping Dylan full of teething tablets, teething gel, and alternating between tylenol & motrin every 4 hours, just hoping to ease the pain. He does get some relief for short periods of time, but really, he has been in pain around the clock for 2 days now. It is supposed to last a week, but I am praying the worst of it will be over soon.......oh, I hope he sleeps well tonight!

Happy Anniversary

To my wonderful husband:

Thank you for 6 great years! Dylan did great, he barely cried and we were able to keep him entertained with a combination of chocolate
teddy grahams, beanie babies, a viewfinder
(remember those things!) and most importantly,

a book of animal stickers. I found those stickers at Michael's the day we left, and thank God I picked them up. Mind you, this was all just for the 1 1/2 hour flight into JFK!! Our flight was late getting in, so we had to rush to our gate, and I even had to change his diaper once we boarded our next plane (thankfully it was just wet).

Dylan was really wound up from the chaos of rushing to our next

gate, so he was a little more challenging to get him settled in for

the flight. As Jason mentioned in his blog, the woman sitting next

to us apparently though Dylan had some sort of incurable disease

or something.... she was horrified to be sitting next to us. I, of

course, was extremely offended by this, and it took everything in

me to not let Dylan "accidentally" bump into her every time she fell asleep. I decided this would not do anything to help improve her view of children, so I tried my best to keep him away from her. He slept for the majority of the flight thanks to the miracle of Dramamine :) He is big enough to take the dose of medication for a 2 yr old, so therefore; big enough for Dramamine. We figured everyone on the flight would be less traumatized, and we had a better chance of making it off the plane alive if we just gave him a little help sleeping.

Anyways, all this to say..... we made it, we are here and I am so happy to be back in CA. Just being in the airport felt more like home. There were toilet seat covers (which are not found much out on the East coast- yuck!), the toilets flushed automatically and the hand soap smells better. I know, these seem insignificant, but to me, things just felt right. We even stopped by IN-N-Out on the way home.

Letting go of God's good

Last weekend during a discussion at out Saturday night church service, a very wise friend said that sometimes we have to let go of "God's good" to make room for His "great." This struck a chord with me, as I have been struggling with our move to NY for almost a year and a half now. It has been a slow process, but I have recently grown to appreciate many aspects of living in upstate NY. But, upon hearing those words, I realized I have never let go of all the good stuff I miss about CA. This was a huge wake-up call for me, and I can now see that I won't be able to experience the great things God has in store for us here, if I'm holding on to the good things in our past. Now, I'm not saying I will ever stop missing all the wonderful friendships we made in CA, the 9 months of sunshine, or all of our family, but I think I am on my way to a new level of acceptance- maybe even happiness- about our move. So, this is me, starting to let go of the good........to make room of the great.

"Bye-bye pee-pee"

Jason and I have begun taking small steps towards getting Dylan ready for potty training. He knows the words pee-pee & poop, and he has his own potty. We don't put him on it much, but he has used it a few times. When he does use his potty, we dump the contents into the real toilet and wave bye-bye. Dylan thinks this is really fun, and now says "bye-bye pee-pee" anytime a toilet flushes. Last weekend Jason's parents were here in Watertown, and the five of us went out to lunch. Dylan was getting restless, so he and I went on a walk around the restaurant. I decided to use the bathroom while we were up, so I took him into the stall with me. There were probably 3 or 4 other women in the bathroom while we were there. Taking Dylan in the stall with me is always an adventure, because I have to keep him from peeking under the partition to the stall next door, and keep him from pulling the toilet paper out all over the floor. So I thought I was in the clear, and we had had a successful bathroom trip- then I flushed the toilet. Dylan looked at me, smiled wide, and said at the top of his lungs........."bye-bye pee-pee!!" At that moment I had 2 options: 1) get embarrassed and try to get him to be quiet (even though everyone had already heard him) or 2) join in and say "bye-bye pee-pee" along with my very cute son. So, we said bye-bye to my pee-pee together, and received lots of giggles from the other women. Oh, the joys of having children :)

Dylan-isms

Dylan is developing quite a vocabulary. I am so freaking EXCITED!!! We will be there Aug 5-15. Dylan will not be 2 yet, so we did not have to get a ticket for him. This was quite a savings, but it means he has to sit on our laps the whole time. We will be flying through the night, so hopefully he will sleep. He may have a little help from some Benadryl :) I am not looking forward to the flight at all, but I am very excited about the visit. There are so many people to see. Sadly, as of right now, there are no plans to make it up to Redding. But maybe we can work something out..... Last night I could not sleep I was so excited. I get to see my cousin's new baby, see Sarah while she's pregnant, see so many good friends, see family, and my brother gets to meet Dylan for the first time. I seriously can't wait!

What a horrible wife

Last Wednesday was Jason's birthday. I, of course, had been aware of this fact for quite some time. I had shopped for (online & in town) and wrapped some pretty awesome gifts. We began celebrating early when we visited his parents the weekend before with cake, ice cream, singing- the usual stuff. The night before Jason's b-day I let him open his gifts, which were a huge success this year (this is not always the case; I can be a horrible gift giver). Apparently this triggered something in my brain, and I forgot his birthday was the next day. When we got up in the morning I did not say a word about it. In my mind his birthday had already come and gone. Jason had to rush out the door to work pretty early- there was a huge, week long, district meeting being held at our church that week. I had to work later that day and did not get off until 9 that night. It was not until probably 6 0r 7 that evening that I realized I had never wished Jason a happy birthday!! By then it was a little late to make up for it. My only saving grace- gifts is one of Jason's primary love languages. Good thing I chose this year to go a little overboard!

my son the naked cowboy

Last Thursday we drove to Ohio for a long weekend. Some of our good friends were getting married, and so we went to stay with Jason's parents. On Friday night I gave Dylan a bath in my in-laws bathroom. I got him out of the tub, and turned around to get a towel. In that short time, he wandered into his grandparent's closet. I called for Dylan to come out, and he came marching out wearing a cowboy hat he had found inside. All I could do was stand there and laugh as I watched him proudly walk-stark naked-to the door to pound on the doorknob (which is his signal that he wants me to open the door). He apparently wanted to show off his new found treasure to his daddy & grandparents. So, I followed him out-praying he would not pee on his grandparents carpet. These are a few (g-rated) pictures so you can share in the joy of this innocent, naked, moment.

One crazy year

Ok, so Jason and I have both recently started blogs. It was actually my idea, but he started his first. But, his first blog was a list of things that happened in the past year, which I thought was a great idea. So.......... in the past year I:

Started working at Starbucks........AGAIN!

Bought snow boots, and actually needed them

Learned how to snowmobile (the most fun I have ever had in the snow!!!)

Went to Brazil for the first (and hopefully not the last) time

Watched my son grow from a baby to a little boy

Spent the night in the hospital with my very sick son

Uttered the words "Oh what a beautiful day, it must be at least 35 degrees right now"

Learned to be a better mom and wife (sometimes)

This past year was full of so much change, I really can't remember everything that happened.
